What is Starstuff?
Starstuff Oy (Business ID 3339209-8) is a Helsinki-based company building an AI-native platform for creating and playing social 3D experiences. The company was founded in January 2023 (originally registered as Meed Oy; renamed Starstuff Oy in October 2023). Starstuff founders are Hanna Toivonen, Jaakko Jumisko and Ari Nykänen. The platform, its code, data and userbase have been built by the company's current team and are wholly owned by Starstuff Oy.
What does Starstuff build?
Starstuff is an AI game creator and playable social platform. A user starts from a photo or a text prompt, and Starstuff's AI produces a fully rigged avatar, 3D items, AI characters and a multiplayer 3D world that runs instantly in the browser on any device – no download, no code. The platform includes an in-platform currency (Starbux) and a peer-to-peer marketplace where users buy and sell user-made content and creators receive a revenue share.
Every internet era has had a native content format – text, photo, short video. Starstuff is built for the next one: playable content, shared play as a social format rather than a traditional game or a feed. On established platforms fewer than 1% of players ever build anything; Starstuff's goal is to make building as easy as posting.
The platform ran an open alpha in 2025 and is in closed beta in 2026 (registered users only) while the team completes infrastructure and content-quality work ahead of public launch. Advisors to the company include Tuomo Lehtinen (ex-VP Games, Rovio), Jon Howard (Supercell, ex-Nintendo), and Petter Made (EWOR, SumUp).
Who leads and owns Starstuff's technology?
Jaakko Jumisko is Starstuff's CTO and co-founder and has led all engineering since 2023. He previously co-founded Next Games (Helsinki IPO; acquired by Netflix) and has worked in the games industry as an engineer and technical leader for over 25 years. Jaakko has designed and led the development of all of Starstuff's core technology, together with Product Lead and co-founder Ari Nykänen. Ari Nykänen is co-founder and leads product (previously Speechly, Lume Games, Next Games, Kuuasema). Together Jaakko and Ari have led and been responsible for the core engineering of Starstuff technologies since 2023.
Hanna Toivonen is CEO and co-founder (previously Brand Lead at Rovio) and has been the company's registered CEO since incorporation. The board consists of Markus Räikkönen (chair), Jaakko Jumisko and Hanna Toivonen. The company's auditor is KPMG Oy Ab.
The platform, its code, data, designs and user base have been built by the company's current team and are wholly owned by the company. All intellectual property created by Starstuff's founders and employees belongs to Starstuff Oy under Finnish law and under the company's standard employment, founder and shareholder agreements, which include IP assignment, confidentiality and non-competition terms. The company's user metrics, growth data and strategy materials are trade secrets and are shared with investors under NDA.
Who has invested in Starstuff?
Starstuff's investors include Icebreaker VC, FOV Ventures, Atomico Angel Fund, Tuolinkantajat, Timo Soininen (founder of Small Giant Games), Märt Lume, Reaktor and Alfons Huber. The company raised its most recent priced round in September 2025. Starstuff provides its investors full access to company information, data and materials under NDA and offers fully transparent, continuous due diligence to prospective investors. Corporate documentation, including the IP assignments, Shareholders’ Agreement, Investment Agreement, and the current shareholder register are available to investors in the company's data room under NDA.
